Summer is here! And if we’re lucky that means a little sand, sun, and self care! As a girl named after this magnificent season, it would be silly to say that I don’t love it!
I live for warm weather, long nights on the lanai with my gal pals, and more time with my booty on the beach. Spending time outdoors is one of my favorite self-care activities. But, spending time outdoors can wreak a little havoc on your skin and body.
So check out my list of amazing Summer Self Care goodies to help you have the best summer yet.

15 AMAZING Summer Self Care Products
Self Care is a great tool for helping us mindfully live our lives by filling up our own cups first. This means taking care of ourselves mind, body, and spirit. Summertime often means having more time to do just that.
Below is a list of my summer must haves to help you take care of you this summer!
Ice Roller-
Puffy eyes and skin can definitely be a culprit in the summertime. The heat and humidity can cause skin to become inflamed, pair that with sun damage and you’re just asking for sad skin.
An Ice Roller can be used to help depuff your under eye area and reduce overall skin inflammation. Just pop it in the freezer for a few hours and then roll away!
Bonus tip: it can be used to help your skin absorb aloe vera or other serums after a long day in the sun.
Reef-Safe Sunscreen-
Protect your bodies largest organ with a strong reef-safe SPF. A reef-safe sunscreen is free of Octinoxate & Oxybenzone, which means it’s less likely to have a negative impact on the ocean.
My favorite Reef-Safe Sunscreen is Sunbum in SPF 50. This stuff smells amazing, isn’t greasy and leaves my skin feeling moisturized too.
Weighted Eye Mask
I’m sure by now you’ve heard of the amazing weighted blanket! They are one of the best self-care products for anxiety. But, in the summer months a weighted blanket can be way too warm to sleep under at night.
Instead I use this awesome weighted eye mask. The gentle and constant pressure helps me fall asleep quickly and sleep restfully. The cover comes off and is machine washable which is great for those especially sweaty nights!
Beach Umbrella-
Sun damage increases the risk of skin cancer, heat exhaustion and early aging! Carrying a beach umbrella with you to stick into the sand or grass at your favorite outdoor spot can be a godsend for saving your skin.
Whether you’re setting up to watch a soccer game, spend a day at the beach, or are having a cookout at the park, a little shade can go a long way.
I love the Sports Umbrella XL because it is very heavy duty and also has 50+ SPF! This umbrella even has side panels that come down to create more of a tent like effect with is perfect for kids and dogs who like to have fun in the sun too!
Self-Care Check-in Journal
Journaling for Self-Care is part of my morning routine. Journaling helps you with problem solving, expressing emotions, and reducing stress.
Keeping a journal for self-care is also a fantastic way to help you keep track of the most wonderful moments of your summer! I love to write when I’m on the beach or sitting outside.
One amazing way to make journaling even easier this summer by using a Self-Care Check-in Journal for guided journaling. This will help take your journaling up to the next level while you focus on self-care.
Stay Hydrated with a Hydroflask
Next up on our list is a fantastic Hydroflask water bottle. I have been in love with their products since I moved to Hawaii five years ago. Nothing keeps your water cool longer. I can put ice in on Friday and still have ice cold water on Sunday.
I love to have a few different sizes to travel with so here are my favorite styles in a few different sizes:
Tarot for Self-Care
Tarot Cards are a great way to reach past mental blocks and tap into the spiritual side of yourself. By reading your own tarot this summer, you can get guidance on a variety of questions.
If you’re new to Tarot Cards here is a great beginners guide to tarot.
My favorite way to practice spiritual self-care with Tarot Cards is to ask them each day “What do I need to focus on today?”
The cards always offer me fantastic guidance on what to pay attention to. In particular, I find asking the above question beneficial for helping me stay grounded and mindful throughout my day.
One of the most important things about reading Tarot is that you need to use a deck of cards you connect with. The more quality time and experience you have with a certain deck will help to strengthen your tarot readings.
Here’s a few great ones:
My FAVORITE Scalp Scrubber
My absolute favorite self-care product I’ve purchased this year is my scalp scrubber! This takes your shower to the next level by massaging your scalp while you shampoo.
Using a silicone scalp scrubber helps to stimulate hair follicles helping your hair grow, while cleaning the scalp of dandruff and dead skin cells.
Just wet your hair, add shampoo to your scalp, and then use this to scrub and lather your hair. It doesn’t cause any tangles while it exfoliates your scalp. I don’t shower without it anymore!
Hang Out in Style
A hammock chair is a great addition to your outdoor space for summer. Curl up and enjoy a great book or some journaling while at ease. A hammock chair is also great for meditating.
I love to sit in my hammock chair for a few minutes each day doing breathing exercises. It’s such a comfy, safe space to hang out in, I just love it!
This hammock chair holds up to 320 lbs and can easily be hung from a stand or attached to a strong support beam.
Prevent Thigh Chafe for Summer Self Care
Summer heat and humidity can cause you an awful lot of discomfort, especially when wearing those gorgeous sun dresses! So, tackle the problem with this amazing anti-chafe moisturizing balm.
It fits easily in your bag or purse and can be put on easily on the go. Just rub this anti-chafe stick on your thighs (or raw heels, or under bust, or under arms, or wherever you’re chafing) and you’re good to go.
Great Books for Summer 2020
Getting lost in a great book is one of the most exciting parts about summer! Being able to dedicate a few hours in the sun to a fantastic fiction or amazing self-help book is very therapeutic.

Here are 7 Amazing Reads for Summer 2020:
- Followers by Megan Angelo– This book is my current read, and it’s really addicting. This book takes place partly in 2016 and partly in 2051. Learn just how crazy life can get when the followers are in charge. A must read if you are a blogger or influencer!
- City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert– A great tale about a young seamstress and her foray into New York City theater in the 1940’s.
- The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe– I love a good coming-of-age tale. Dramatic and heartfelt this is a great book for summer.
- The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett– This is on the top of my list to read this summer. An enticing tale about two twin sisters who grow up to lead completely opposite lives from their towns to their races.
- Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan– Author of “Crazy Rich Asians” this modern romance is sure to be full of fashion, deceit, and seduction.
- Untamed by Glennon Doyle– This book is already topping the charts. This amazing memoir is sure to encourage, inspire, and liberate the reader!
- Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid– is AMAZING. This book is a fiction based on an American rock band from the 1970’s. It’s written almost like a VH1: Behind the Scenes episode. It’s raw and real, and I couldn’t put it down!

Body Wash Infused Body Buffers

These amazing body buffers are wonderful. Use them to keep dry bumpy skin at bay this summer. As an exfoliator I love their gentleness, but I also love how well they work. These Spongellé body buffers really help my keratosis pilaris when used before moisturizing.
Use them this summer to buff away that inevitable sunburn as it heals up! I know if you’re at all like me, the first day or two in the sun (sunscreen aside) will still result in a mild burn.
10% off sitewide with code AFFILIATE10 at Spongelle!Lightweight Pajamas for a Cool Snooze
Are you a sweaty sleeper in the summer? Say good-bye to those hot nights with these amazing bamboo pajamas. They are super soft to the touch and come in some amazing colors.
What I love most about them it that they come in sizes S-4XL! It can be hard to find high-quality pajamas in plus sizes. I also love that they have pants, capris, and shorts available. Your summer dreams just got a little sweeter.
Gardening Goodness
One of my favorite ways to practice self-care in the summer is to garden. Taking care of plants releases endorphins that help us stay happy!
I use my garden as an excuse to spend time outside and it helps me to stay active and get some Vitamin D too! This year we are using this super cute hanging garden to grow our herbs.
Moisturize your Skin
The heat, salt and sand are a large part of any summer adventure, but can leave our skin dry, sun burnt and chapped. Here’s are some of my favorite moisturizing products that can save your skin this summer!
Developing a great skin care routine is a huge part of my summer self-care plan. After cleansing and toning my face I love to use IT Cosmetics Confidence in a cream. It provides all day moisture and isn’t greasy or oily in any way!
Sun burn can leave our skin red, raw, and sore. I use aloe vera gel to help heal my sunburn. After my sunburn has healed a bit (2-3 Days post burn) I apply skin moisturizer to help seal in and replenish my skins moisture.
Lubriderm is my go to for daily moisture. It’s fragrance free and full of Vitamin B5 which works great for sensitive skin. It can also speed up healing!

Keep you lips kissable all summer long with a great lip balm. I love the tropical flavors of this coconut and mango lip balm by Raw Sugar! The little tub of lip scrub is definitely an added bonus too.
Tips for Adding Self-Care into your Daily Routine
During the summer months, I find that things happen more spontaneously! Learning to go with the flow, is something I am constantly working on.
So, I help prepare for the summer months by pre-making a beach bag, which is filled with things I need regularly but don’t want in my purse.
I hang mine up in the entry way to grab and go whenever I want. It helps me feel prepared for anything! And I can get ready for the beach or a hike in a flash!
What’s Inside my Summer Self-Care Bag?
- Lip Balm
- Hand Sanitizer
- Sunscreen
- Water Bottle
- A Book
- Beach Towel
- A Journal or Notebook
- And don’t forget a snack!
Oh man, I’ve never heard of an ice roller! Summer is NOT my favorite season due to the heat so an ice roller is definitely something I need haha great list!
I had never heard of one until I got one in a FabFitFun box! And I tried it and loved it. I love summer but not a lot of the “side-effects” like sweating, chafing, and dehydration. Let me know if you try it out!
love these selfcare products!
Thank you Leeandra! What does your current Self-Care Routine Look Like?
His is such a great list for Summer self care, however, the weighted eye mask and the hammock are by far my favorites!!

I am glad that you found something that resonated with you. My self care routine tends to come in waves. Some times it’s like pulling teeth. Sometimes it feels natural. I try to stick with a few simple ones: journaling, my morning routine, learning something new. These offer me maximum flexibility. Good luck on your journey! Let me know if I can help in any way 🙂 XO-Summer

Thanks for your kind comment Nishtha! Having a beach bag ready to go has saved me so many times this summer! I am happy to hear that the idea resonated with you. What items would you put inside your beach bag?
Such a fun list of products! One of my favorite summer self care products is Elta facial moisturizer because it contains sunscreen. Never too much sunscreen! I need to try the scalp scrubber!
Thank you! I have never tried the Elta Facial Moisturizer but I’ll add it to my list. I’m a skincare junkie and can always use more SPF. The scalp scrubber is the best $7 I’ve spent. I have some scalp dermatitis so it really helps to keep that at bay and the massage is a bonus 🙂 Let me know what you think if you try it out!
